LCAS May Meeting

Program: Transits of Venus:
  • A brief history of the observable transits, pointing out some observations that had non-astronomical associations;
  • An explanation of the odd 121.5 - 8 - 105.5 year periodicity of the transits;
  • A description of how transits of Venus were used to measure the distance between Earth and the Sun;
  • A preview of the coming June transit and a personal review of the 2004 transit.
